Introduction
Welcome to the Department of Public Health, Graduate School of Public Health, Kumamoto University!
Human health & disease condition is determined by the complex interplay between genetic susceptibility and environmental exposure including life style. We are interested in the study of discovering the genetic and environmental causes of the diseases. Understanding genetic susceptibility to environmental agents will allow more precise identification of the environmental agents that cause disease and the true risks of exposures. We are currently engaging in the research projects as follows: 1) identification of functionally important genetic markers of carcinogen susceptibility; and 2) molecular epidemiological studies of gene-environmental interactions in cancer etiology. This can lead to more effective disease prevention and the improvement of public health. In addition, we conduct preventive approach on the bone mineral density in the focus on life style and body composition in young females. Furthermore, we start a new epidemiological study for children’s environmental Health: “birth cohort study”.
